Well it was almost a year ago when i announced the Sears had brought back layaway for the holidays. On Monday I posted that Toys R Us is now starting a Layaway program. I am so happy that companies are trying to help the working families during the Christmas seasons!!!. Now I will be able to purchase 2 new bikes without killing my pocketbook.
To give you a little history about when layaway first became popular it was during the Great Depression back when people was planting Victory Gardens! We have always been people the wanted but sometimes just could not afford to out right buy it. Little shops, car lots, department stores all offered this service to help out their customers. But after several decades of consumers getting used to whipping out the plastic and getting instant gratification it faded away, but now some experts believe the return to more frugal values is a much-needed change.
Some stores have keep the traditions of help there customer have more with the layaway plan, with Kmart, Sears, Burlington Coat Factory among those offering the service.
For all you online shoppers layaway has gone online at eLayaway.com. The website by a Tallahassee company offers online layaway services for about 1,200 retailers, including Gap, Apple and Bass Pro Shops.
I hope this helps out some one out that was nervous about this years gift giving.
